Corpus Christi , USA
The First Annual Susan Polgar National Open Championship for Girls Under 21 took place January 27 – 29, 2006. More than 210 girls from 14 states came to the Bayfront Plaza Hotel in Corpus Christi, Texas. Here, MonRoi was pleased to have the opportunity to implement their system for the Championship.

According to the Susan Polgar Foundation website, “in approximately 30 nations across the globe, including Brazil, China, Venezuela, Italy, Israel, Russia and Greece, chess is incorporated into the country’s scholastic curriculum.  Chess can help develop critical thinking that can be used in other areas of a child’s life, academics and social situations.”

It was fitting then, for Nelly Estrada, who placed first in the Open Championship, to receive a brand new Dell laptop and printer.  She can use this technology to help continue her education in chess as well as all other areas of knowledge.

Grandmaster Susan Polgar herself had this to say about the event: “We just finished the tournament tonight, which was a great success. It was the largest all-girls National Championship ever in US history! The girls who used the MonRoi unit in the Open section loved it! All the parents, kids and the media were impressed by the advanced technology!"
