The Coppell Gifted Association chess camp is December 26-28. Information is HERE and spaces are still available. Dr. Alexey Root will be teaching at the chess camp.

The camp is for ages 5-12.

Camp description: Chess campers are divided into three groups so that each camper has instruction and competition at an appropriate level. For beginners, instruction includes the rules of chess, including castling, en passant, and pawn promotion. Instruction for the experienced campers includes basic checkmates, such as the two-rook mate. Some of the activities for the advanced campers include reading and writing algebraic chess notation and solving chess puzzles. In addition to instructional time with Dr. Alexey Root, a former U.S. Women's Chess Champion, all campers will have multiple opportunities to play chess games with fellow campers. Dr. Root's latest book is Thinking with Chess: Teaching Children Ages 5-14.
