This coming Saturday, November 21, 2015, Dr. Alexey Root will be at the Denton Public Library, North Branch, for International Games Day @ your library. She will give out chess problems and prizes. Look for her article about the event in the news section of US Chess in the week after November 21.

This past Saturday, November 14, Dr. Alexey Root competed in the University of North Texas (UNT) Fall Open. Her previous tournament was the UNT Spring Open March 28, 2015. Both events were won by Fide Master Keith Hayward. Dr. Root now has a .5-6.5 record against FM Hayward, after the latest two losses in the spring and fall opens. She won her other games in those events, leaving her US Chess rating near its floor of 2000.

Congrats to the UNT Chess Club for hosting these events, which had terrific (quiet!) conditions.  The UNT Chess Club plans another tournament in the spring of 2016, with a US Chess rated section, an unrated section, and a scholastic section.

And for the chess-player the success which crowns his work, the great dispeller of sorrows, is named "combination."
