Beginners and Intermediates: After Dr. Root gave four examples on the demonstration board, the beginners and intermediates created positions for each other. The positions had to either be check, checkmate, stalemate, or none of the above. After creating the positions in small groups, one “visitor” from each group visited the other groups to figure out their positions and rate the groups visited on politeness. Then roles were changed, so the visitors stayed at their home position to welcome others and new students got to be visitors.

 

Advanced: Luke presented his best game from the October 26 tournament, pausing the game at key moments so that pairs of students (following along on their boards) could decide what might be played next.
