UTD 12.5; UB 3.5 IN TRANSATLANTIC CUP MATCH PDF Print E-mail
Written by Alexey W. Root on Thu, Oct 30 2008 (22:57)

On Halloween The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) defeated the University of Belgrade (UB) 12.5 to 3.5 in the third annual Transatlantic Cup match. The match started late, because University of Belgrade had already switched to standard time. So 12:30 p.m. Central Standard Time (CST, i.e. UTD time) was perceived to be 11:30 a.m. by UB. Nevertheless, dignitaries were present at both UTD (such as Undergraduate Dean Michael Coleman) and at UB (GM Svetozar Gligoric) to make ceremonial opening moves for the 16-board match by 1:15 p.m. CST. Games were played via the Internet Chess Club. To view the games, log in to your account and type "fi UTDUB". Several of my current and former students spectated at, or played in, the chess match today. Also present were the UTD cheerleaders and the mascot, Temoc.

And for the chess-player the success which crowns his work, the great dispeller of sorrows, is named "combination."
