WIKIPEDIA WARNING PDF Print E-mail
Written by Alexey W. Root on Sun, Oct 04 2009 (04:37)

Someone using the name "Alexeyroot" modified the entries about "Alexey Root" and "Dallas Chess Club" on September 14, 2009. I did NOT write (or edit) those Wikipedia entries. I was impersonated by someone using an IP address from Denton/Charter Communications. (I have Verizon in Denton). I have reported the problem to Wikipedia, and just got this response:

"Wikipedia users are not required to submit any personal information to register
for an account, and even if this user had submitted any, it would be a violation
of our privacy policy to disclose it to you or anyone else.

This user account has been blocked from further editing, but our license prevents
us from changing the attribution of previous edits without the consent of the user
who made the edits."

So I hope the impersonator will remove those postings, since Wikipedia cannot.

REPORTING WITHOUT MONROI IS HARD WORK PDF Print E-mail
Written by Alexey W. Root on Wed, Sep 09 2009 (02:40)
On September 5-7, 2009 I played in the first-ever U.S. Women's Open in Tulsa, OK, won by University of Texas at Dallas sophomore WFM Saheli Nath. I was the reporter for the Women's and for the concurrent tournaments for Chess Life Online (articles online now) and Chess Life (articles will be in the December 2009 and January 2010 issues). The concurrent events were the U.S. Senior Open (won by GM Larry Christiansen) , Okie Open (won by IM Michael Brooks), and Masters Round Robin (won by Conrad Holt, IM Bryan Smith, and IM Ray Kaufman). Since the organizers did not arrange for MonRoi at these events, it took time to find and photocopy score sheets. Sometimes, the writing on those score sheets was poor. It was hard to know what moves were played. Unlike MonRoi, where it is easy to replay games, reporting was hard work.

2009 US Open Chess Championship PDF Print E-mail

By Abby Marshall: Kudos as always to MonRoi for broadcasting the games and making it possible for everyone to know the results live. I guess I switched to writing hieroglyphics in the middle of my notation so I can’t read half my moves, but thanks to MonRoi I now have the complete score. Yay! I’m definitely not going to be the last girl to win. There are many young players who are stronger than I was at their age. I have no doubt this is just the first step in American chess for women reaching equality with men. I’m excited about that. Read more

And for the chess-player the success which crowns his work, the great dispeller of sorrows, is named "combination."
