2011 Youth Chess Tournament for Peace
In the past year, we have been witness to historic uprisings, heart-wrenching acts of terrorism and the full effects of nature’s fury. In spite of it all, however, those most burdened find it within themselves to face a new day and begin the process of healing in the pursuit of inner peace.
As the next generation of decision-makers, you have a tremendous responsibility in ensuring the planet truly is a better place to live, work and play. In the face of continuous conflict, harmonious co-existence between races, creeds and cultures built on a foundation of mutual respect and understanding remains as elusive as it is essential. Peace is unattainable by any other means.
Events such as the 2011 Youth Chess Tournament for Peace offer a forum for the exchange of ideas within a safe environment and one can only hope the conversations extend beyond these four walls. As chess players, you are equipped with the tools of critical assessment, reasoned judgment and, perhaps most importantly, the ability to solve problems. Learn to apply these in your everyday life and not only shall you find the satisfaction of inner peace and happiness in your own life, but you may just find the effects in the far-reaching limits of your external environment as well.
