Special thanks to former Lubbock Mayor David Miller for hosting us and Jerry and Beatrice Perez for making all the arrangements. The players, SPICE organizers, and guests from as far as Lindsborg, KS, went to the beautiful Spirit Ranch for a private Texas style barbecue dinner.

Spirit Ranch is nestled in the Escondido Canyon just five miles north of downtown Lubbock, Texas and is surrounded by 100 year-old elm trees, open meadows , and running water coming off of the Double Mountain Fork of the Brazos River. Everyday stress and disruptions fall away by the waterside as flocks of geese, ducks, and brilliantly plumed peacocks leisurely make their way across the meadow to the river. Spirit Ranch boasts an extraordinarily beautiful and calming environment conducive to building leaders and teams.

Special thanks to ASB, our newest 2008 SPICE Cup sponsor.

About ASB:

Since we opened our doors in 1948, American State Bank has been helping people and businesses find financial success. Maybe it’s because we take the time to get to know you and then stay with you, wherever life takes you. Or maybe it’s because we’re from here. As a locally owned and operated bank, we’re invested in helping our community grow, one individual, one business at a time.

From a small, one-room redwood frame building, nicknamed “the log cabin,” we went to work. ASB was the first bank to introduce the drive-up window. The first to give a woman a loan without her husband’s signature. And in keeping with innovation, we were the first to introduce Tillie, an automatic teller machine, to Texas.

In our time, we’ve only had two presidents, Jack Payne and W.R. Collier. It was Payne’s vision to establish a “friendly little family bank.” And even though we now have 35 locations in 18 communities, we’re still true to that vision. And from loans to building a legacy, we’re still passionate about what we do. We’re also glad you’re here.

Chess Quotes

And for the chess-player the success which crowns his work, the great dispeller of sorrows, is named "combination."
